Hi

Can anyone recommend a good divorce lawyer in/around the Brighton area please?

I am after advice on the financial split. I am hoping my husband and I can navigate this amicably without legal involvement but would like advice as a starting point, we don't have children so hopefully will make things more straightforward.

Thanks

Don’t need a solicitor in first place for that advice.

  1. Go to government web site for divorce. This is where you can diy petition and is really user friendly and simple. In here are all the forms you need. For a financial consent order ( eg minimum needed if you can both agree) you need a D81 and Form E to be completed. Print these out. Take a look togther
  2. Both familiarise yourselves with the processes to get divorce and financial agreement. Best sites are Mediate and Advice Now . They have guides on how to do your own financial settlement. You can do all the disclosure and agreement and then a laymens contract on what you agree. You take that to your solicitor to get them to put into legal speak as a draft consent order . The courts “seal” this at point of your decree final. They will refer to 10 or so criteria to ensure your agree, ent is fair…you can find these out on sites I have listed.

Only once you’ve both informed yourselves, go to solicitor with EXACTLY what you actually want them to do and very specific questions. That way you’ll keep bills down and timelines quicker.

Really, if you agree you don’t need a “good” divorce lawyer. Agree yourselves. Make sure you meet those criteria. Find a divorce lawyer that will do the bits you want them to do and only those. Do the rest yourselves.

The on line divorce site for getting a divorce is so easy…probably too easy in some ways.

Don’t forget law changes in April so you can go for quickie no fault divorce- that also will help it to be no blame and more consensual as you sort stuff out.

If you need a heavy duty solicitor use mancini - they are expensive but they get the job done. They were recommended by several people to me and will tell you exactly whats what.
It is worth booking them for an hours consultation the information I received was terrific and gave me a starting point for me to negotiate my own divorce.
They are not Brighton, they are Horsham but well worth the drive.

That's really helpful, thank you for the recommendation. I am happy to travel for good advice and using that as a starting as you've done.
