Do I need to do anything to 'officially' separate?

Dh moved out a couple of weeks ago, we are planning to divorce. Is there some kind of official declaration or legal document needed to prove I am separated? I want to claim child benefit, single occupancy council tax discount, fill in my dc's student finance form based on my income alone, etc. Can I just give the date he moved out or will they need some kind of documentation?

I think you just give the date he moved out

Thanks thisisscary. I phoned the council tax office after posting and they just wanted the date, no other proof.

Glad you got the council tax sorted. Good luck with everything x

Hi. For the Uni Finance, your DC will need to state that you are single, then they contact you to add your financial's, including proof. The Council tax bill stating single persons discount was enough for me.

THanks @ItsAllKindaWeird, that's helpful.
