Hearing for Decree Nisi - what does this mean?

Hello everyone,

Husband filed and applied in October for a Decree Nisi.
I just got an email that there will be a hearing in Birmingham (we don’t live anywhere near Birmingham).
Is this normal? Does everyone get a hearing like this? Why will there be a hearing?

You dont need to do anything unless you want to contest it. Mine was last week in Birmingham too (Im in Lincoln). Its just the formal part where the judge signs it off really. Mine was at 10am and by lunchtime I had the email saying it was approved. I filed so I get all the info. Not sure what my stbxh got but he was mardy so Im assuming he got something.

The only thing that can be questioned at the hearing is that he requested that I pay the costs, even though he earns 135k a year and I earn 31k a year. I said no and gave good reasons. Also, it is his decision to have a divorce not mine.

We live in the South East. I wonder if he will attend the hearing?

Did you get anything that says they re granting him the costs application? If so you may need to attend to contest it. My stbxh didnt read the paperwork or the stuff I sent him so didnt know he is meant to be paying it all. He missed the 2 week deadline to contest it.

It's an announcement not a hearing. You'll just get an email on the day, I doubt you could attend even if you wanted to.
