I was a domestic abuse victim. I was broken. He paid for my solicitor but only if I used the one he chose. He text and called daily until I agreed to the offer. He has 3 properties worth over a million in total plus other assets like 3 new cars. I got £100,000 plus a 12 year old car. 16 years of marriage and 4 dc. No maintenance due to 50:50. I agreed just to make the harassment stop, but it hasn’t. He still regularly text me to inform me what a terrible person and parent I am, threatening social services because ds lost his jumper and I didn’t replace it within 12 hours (I work!). I can hardly afford to live and he’s living exactly like he c did before the split. I’m stronger now (14 months on from the decree nisi) but is it completely too late to do anything?

Anyone checking my history - posting for a friend but she wrote it and I just realised I didn’t add an explanation to the start.

What do you want anending, if you dont think the finances are fair your solicitor may help apply for extra payments but you can stop him texting you if its harrassment,

No idea it sounds likely coercive control and possibly a solicitor that did not represent the client properly. Specialist legal advice needed.

I just didn’t know if it’s a done deal or can be amended to ensure further funding. At the time it was agreed there was 0 access to family funds and she was living in her overdraft and on credit cards so that wasn’t sustainable and she was bullied into the settlement agreement. She doesn’t have £500 to spend on advice if there’s no chance of changing it, hence asking here first. Meanwhile he was buying 2 hot tubs for the properties and doing full refurbishments inside and out. It’s just an appalling situation.

Has she had the decree absolute yet? Also if a solicitor did the financial side did she sign anything? Quite honestly I am surprised nothing was flagged as a conflict of interests, how can a solicitor have her needs covered if ex is paying?

Was there a consent order?

It's possible this was done "off the books" to avoid a judge rejecting it and prompting her to ask for more.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 04/12/2021 17:28

She’s has the decree absolute. I think it went to a judge. He probably hid assets in all honesty as he runs a business.

Did the financial remedy go before a judge? Do they have a consent order? That's quite important.

No one can advise on here. There are circumstances in which an order can be set aside or varied, but to advise a solicitor would need to read the previous solicitor's file.
