Separated but forced to live together

Hello everyone.

I was wondering whether anyone could possibly advise me. I have been married for 13 years and we have two kids together. Our marriage was always up and down and we decided to separate following big argument. We are currently renting two bedroom flat. I would like to be financially independent from him however even though I earn money and work it won't be enough. My question is if I can still claim universal credit while living with him? I do not want to get into any trouble with law or fraud as this is not me. I have never taken any benefits: please advise me. I would be very grateful.

Thank you

I believe you can, but you have to stop cooking for him and doing his washing etc. Live separate lives in the flat.
It sounds like you need advice from a solicitor or citizens advice.

The legal advice about being separated but in the same house, is pretty much to cook, eat, sleep, socialise/watch TV and do laundry separately. However this is basically impossible when you have kids and want to make their life secure. Good luck, its a hard process but will be worth it.
