Just that really! I very much doubt any landlord would rent to me. Has anyone managed to overcome this? Living with toxic man who will not leave.

Need more info- why is it bad?

Roundearth · 30/08/2021 10:45

what is the score, do u have debts, do u have any account sin your name which can help you build it up. have you done all the suggested steps the credit karma app/ experian or similar to improve the rating

SpicyJalfrezi · 30/08/2021 10:45

It doesn’t really need more info. It’s a bad credit rating.

It is hard and will limit options but not necessarily insurmountable. Private rentals are a possibility. I once found one on spare room .com, it was a whole flat (I couldn’t afford agents fees.)

I wouldn’t be too quick to leave, you need expert advice Flowers

Beelzebop · 30/08/2021 11:05

Let me assure you it's bad. I wouldn't even get a new phone probably. Mainly because I was naive and believed that dh was paying bills which were in my name. I know how to improve it etc. It's about 600.

Following as in the same boat. Could the PP poster please link the mentioned apps - karma app etc. Do you have to pay etc?

SMaCM · 30/08/2021 11:15

A friend of mine was able to rent as long as she could show she had enough savings, or a guarantor.

Beelzebop · 30/08/2021 12:50

I'm stuffed I think.

Credit Karma is free.
www.creditkarma.co.uk/

it's gets your score and can spot where you might be missing things which can improve it. I moved up maybe 50 points in 6 months when I first did it.
it will notify you when you score changes too.

GivenchyDahhling · 30/08/2021 17:02

Contrary to what many estate agents claim, you don’t actually get “credit checked” for a rental reference. The only thing they can check are public records ie CCJs, bankruptcies, IVAs.

GivenchyDahhling · 30/08/2021 17:02

So if you have a load of defaults etc but no actual CCJs you might be ok in that regard.

Yellowshirt · 01/09/2021 21:29

Credit Karma is very simple . My score is 523 due to my ex wife and financial abuse. I also have 3 CCJS
It shouldn't stop you renting a property as long as your working but you won't get a mortgage.
I'm stuck in a HMO with 5 other people. You just need to pay off the debts and then let your credit file settle. My credit file will be reset in September 2023. Spare room is a good website for HMOs.
Don't waste your time blaming your ex as no one listens including the police and any banks or companies involved. One example I'll use is Halifax bank. They let my ex run up a £7000 overdraft on my account. She was transferring my wages each month into her bank account and also adding a bit more to my overdraft and Halifax let her do it.
Honestly pay the debts back and have no credit cards or overdrafts. It's the only way out.

RandomMess · 01/09/2021 21:35

Why/how is he toxic?

Is leaving via a refuge or at least with their help an option?

KeyboardWorriers · 01/09/2021 21:38

Do you have children? Do you have there evidence of abuse? I was able to get a court order so (now ex) H had to leave the house (in my case because the children and I needed it more) . I had to prove I could pay the mortgage though.

Yellowshirt · 01/09/2021 23:25

@KeyboardWorriers I no your talking to the original poster but just to say I had the evidence of £20000 of financial abuse including 4 years of bank statements and absolutely no one including West Mercia police were interested in helping me. I lost my house , car , and daughter and no one supported me. My ex wife is still in the house now.
You must have had a very good solicitor.

KeyboardWorriers · 02/09/2021 08:37

@yellowshirt I had evidence of physical violence towards me.

Yellowshirt · 02/09/2021 23:33

@KeyboardWorriers. I also had evidence of physical violence against me including a black eye but it was also dismissed immediately
