Long story but I basically want to divorce my estranged husband.
We lived together here in the UK (our marriage is legally recognised here) but, when I left him (because of domestic violence), he had his visa revoked and was deported back to his country of origin.
We've been apart almost 5 years but a solicitor recently told me I'd still have to go through the legal channels to get divorced paperwork.
Trouble is, I have no idea where he's living... I guess he'll be still in his native country. I'm not in contact with any of his family or friends so I can't even ask about an address for him.
Any divorce lawyers here? How can I go about applying for a UK divorce when I don't know how or where he can be contacted?
Would the courts/lawyer check with the police and home office to see if an address can be found for him?
I can only guess at bits of his parents' old address from 10 years ago, no idea who lives there now or even if they still live there.
The whole thing feels such a mess! I don't want my lack of contact details for him to block me being able to divorce him. I'm hoping to re-marry and would need divorce paperwork in order to do this. Feeling stuck.
