When the ex won't tell you his address - CMS

Hi all, I am asking for a friend. I know this has been covered before but I couldn't find it on a search.

My friend's ex-husband has recently moved from his mother's house to a new address and won't tell her this new address. Obviously this is shit for many reasons but she says that the CMS are asking for it. She has just started trying to set up an arrangement through them as he has been such an arse.

Surely the CMS must be used to this situation and she could give them his work address instead? Does anyone know how this works? I can't believe they won't be able to get to his payroll just because they don't have his new address!

Thank you so much for any information, anyone has.

Do you know where he works? If so, tell the CMA, they can then use HMRC to get your payments. Good luck

Thank you User. Yes I suggested she use his work address and she would have his work details of course. But she said the guy on the phone wanted his residential address which she doesn't have. I wondered if this mattered and if someone could confirm this for sure.

Work address should do if they do an attachment of earnings...

Chamomileteaplease · 08/04/2020 14:32

Thanks Windy, that's what I hoped.

My ex has moved multiple times, I've always ended up finding out the area of but never bang on. Luckily I have friends everywhere and they spotted him working. I updated CMS with that and then again when he'd done one from there and then when he'd moved job again and had to serve me at the counter.
It's the long way round but I prefer it to go through their employer and place of work details will go through.

Thank you everyone, she knows all his work details so it looks like this will be enough Smile.

I was told by CMS that the paying parent has to tell them their address themselves, I.e. that they would not accept it from me! My ex kept moving because he had debts (including to CMS). He obviously did not notify them of new address, so they could not serve the liability order. I knew his address, phoned them to tell them but they would not accept it and said they could not change his address on record without his permission! But that they do have government tracing powers so can track him down eventually. X

Thanks User. I think sometimes it just depends who you get on the end of the phone Confused.

I hope it gets sorted out for her.
