Just that please. I am moving into family home( which was rented until now) and am primary carer, with my children soon. I want to make changes eg tiling, painting , flooring etc. As it is jointly owned , do I have to get permission from ex to do these changes please.

Can I clarify. This is a jointly owned property but he has no intention of ever living in?

It was rented out presumably to someone else but you are now going to live there?
Where is he living?
If he is living there but you are just living as separated then obviously he needs to know.
If it is on a Mesher order it is probably worth mentioning but unless there is a risk changes will reduce the value it's unlikely he will care.

I should think regular decor of course not. Anything more substantial possibly???

I hope he isn't trying to be a controlling dickhead telling you that you can't do anything without his permission...

Anything aside from basic decor, I think you would yes as he is a joint owner.
