Child Maintenance how and when is this paid

Hi all. I am due to separate from ex OH. I will have the children the majority of the time so child maintenance is due to be paid to me. How is this 'normally done'? In advance or arrears (in which case I will be in constant overdraft)?

I am (hoping) he will pay this without issue so directly to me. But if not and it ends up being taken directly from his salary; how does this affect how/when the CM is paid?
Thanks

In advance.

We had an agreement of x. Each payday. Unfortunately ex thought supporting the children was optional. After few months of messing me about I went to Cms. They can only start a claim from The day you put in the call. So no back dating

They gave ex the opportunity to pay the amount they calculated himself. He decided he wasn't going to do that. So it was escalated to direct pay. So it was take. From his wages with a further 20% added for their trouble. It took a few months for them to sort it. But the arrears were adding up from the day I put in the claim.

It was taken from his wages on pay day. I usually get the money a few days later. This depends on the employer. For example if they work for the Nhs the amount comes in a lump sum and the cms need to allot the money to the correct account/parent. So can take longer.

my ex has now lost his job. But I have left the claim in place as once he is working again it will be put in place to get it directly from his employer. I wouldn't go back to him paying me personally as he is clearly not reliable enough and I will hopefully eventually get the money owed.
