How does splitting assets work if money comes in after you separate?

We separated almost 3 years ago and ex is being frustratingly slooow and really dragging the whole process out.

So much so that there is now the question of recent pay related bonus to the tune of £40k. Should that be split or not?

Depends what else there is. If both parties' needs can be met without it, there's a good argument that the one who earned it should keep it. If it's a struggle to get each of you suitably housed, the judge will throw it into the mix, so that maybe the one with the bonus keeps it but the other one gets a bit more of the equity from the family home.

Thanks, that makes sense.

I am supposed to be getting half of our savings as part of the settlement but since we separated, some of that money has been used to buy furniture for ex's new house and I think that should come out of their half, not the total before it's split
