Life insurance / the ex

Hello,

I'm looking for a bit of advice.

Part of my partners divorce stated that his life insurance policy, should the worst happen, will need to cover his ex's mortgage until their children are a certain age. I'm assuming 18.

My question is, what if we have a child and a house ourselves? Obviously, my main concern is nothing happens to him to ever use a life insurance policy but if it did, what would happen? Can you amend a life insurance policy to include others if it's part of a divorce? I'm not sure how it works.

We're not yet married.

Thanks!

Taking out another policy after you are married to cover; yourself, children and mortgage is probably the easiest way.

As PP said get another policy payable to you. I have three:
One that pays out yearly till DD is 18.
One that pays off the mortgage.
One that pays a lump sum to my business partner so he can pay my estate out of the business.

Too amend the recipient it can be complex and can need a new deed of trust and for the previous recipient to agree. Yes have done this too.
