Husband has wiped savings account

Very early stages of split.... both seeing solicitor for first time next week...I have just checked our joint savings and he has withdrawn nearly all the money this morning. I have a screenshot of the balance as it was a few days ago and have taken one now. Will the solicitor be able to make him return my half? I am shaking in shock.

O im so sorry to hear that. Have you put a blocker on the account so he carnt take out any more? Go into the bank and explain situation they will ensure he (and you) carnt touch the joint account.

Im not sure if the solicitor will expect him to return it or not? But i think your best chance is to try and get him to admit that he has withdrawn the money so at least you can get the proof that he did it. Do this via email or text so you have the evidence is writing. Then when you do go and see a solicitor you have as much amo as possible .

So sorry to hear this, i'm going through a divorce too and its been very very hard. I think some people play fairly through divorce and others don't it sounds like he doesnt! Ensure that you change all your pin numbers so he doesnt know them and generally start protecting yourself financially.

Thankfully the divorce system in this country is fundamentally pretty good and deals with this kind of thing very regularly according to my solicitor.

What he has done is called intentional deprivation of assets and it will be frowned on but much more importantly, whatever you walk away with will reflect fact he has emptied the account ie you will get more

Thanks both, that's good to know. It makes me giggle that he was busy telling me that I will have to "come clean" about everything but he thinks he can hide an asset!

If you own your property and other assets then the court will probably deduct it from that so you both get your fair share.

If you don't he can just say he has spent it (on cocaine and prostitutes if he likes). Court can't/won't do anything.
