Advice on telling kids that we are separating

Need to tell the kids very soon that we are separating and moving to new homes.

Same situation as you also. We split recently and have decided to wait until mid January to tell the DC.

Definitely get xmas and new year over with, then give it a couple of weeks after so they don't always associated xmas with their parents splitting up.

Just tell them you both love them very much but mum and dad will be living in a different house? I don't know, maybe something on those lines. We have the wording to think about yet.

Hi, have a look at the website Resolution (the association of family lawyers committed to resolving issues in a non-confrontational way) - there's a page there on what to tell the children; and also a helpful online booklet you can access for free on how to deal with difficult emotions (theirs and yours). How old are they? Ours were 7 and 5 when we split up. We just said that Daddy was going to live in a different house and that they'd spend time in both houses and that they'd keep going to the same school.
Did it quite soon (a few days?) before XH moved out I think.

DC were fine - was at lot easier than we were expecting.

They're 14 and 12 now and things still all right so I guess we got something right.
