Hi

My exh left a year ago.

I am now in a place where I need to start divorce proceedings and get myself financially independant.

I have only worked part time since my children were born and earn 18% of what he earns.

In a year my youngest will go to university, so maintenance will finish.

The mortgage is in both names and he is renting a place. I want to keep the house until the youngest finishes University. Ideally i want to take over the house, but because of my low earnings, I don't think I would get a mortgage.

What experience do you have around getting the house in exchange for him keeping savings/insurance. Also what percentage of the equity should i be asking for. Will I be eligible for spousal maintenance?

I have been diagnosed with comples ptsd 8 years ago which has curtailed my abulity to work full time.

All of this needs to be discussed with a family socilictor and is known as ancillary matters.
Only a solicitor can advise the options open to you.
