Called as a witness

Friends are getting divorced. I am closer to wife and her ex has moved on with someone else so not local to friendship circle anymore.

Have a feeling I will be called as a witness in the forthcoming legal proceedings. Can I refuse?

Do you have witnesses in divorce cases? When XH and I got divorced we didn't go to court at all although we did both agree on the divorce happening.

Why would you be called as a witness? The only part I believe would be in the financial remedy, and even then it is highly unusual.
