Can someone tell me how legal costs are dealt with in divorce? I am not seeking costs of the petition and hope to come to an agreement on finances. I have run up some bills in getting advice however and my stbx is likely to self represent. Will my costs of advice come out of the general pot of capital available to share or will they be mine alone?

Might sound obvious, but that depends on whether you agree that or not.Would you really let an agreement stand or fall on whether he's willing to pay towards your costs?

No I would not I suppose but technically legal fees could swallow up a lot if he carries on behaving as he is doing and then i might. Just wanted to know how my fees would be dealt with and in fact whether i have a duty to make clear to him what i have spent so that he does not in fact end up paying a portion of them.
