50/50 shared custody...how to make finances fair with the child tax credit and CB

I am heading to mediation and I want to prepare it as much as possible,my ex being quite a manipulative guy. I feel that we might agree to a 50/50 share of the children's custody, however we won't be able to agree on who gets the much needed child tax credit and child benefit.
I fear that we might end up back in court where somebody else will take all the decisions for us if we can't agree during the mediation.
bloody system where shared custody should not exist! How could we make it financialy fair for both of us?

CB and tax credits for one child can't be split but if there is more than one child one parent could claim CB for one/some child and the other parent for the other child(ren).

I take the CB (no CTC anymore) then I buy all of the children's clothes. I would have ended up doing it anyway, so it works OK.
