Soon to be XH applying for credit using my address

Bit of background info, my not so 'D'H walked out on DD and I a month ago. No warning, no fighting, just left. He didn't think at all about the practical implications of leaving (where to live, arrangements for DD etc etc) so I've been left to sort everything out whilst dealing with the shock of it all.

Anyway, DD and I remained in our flat and he's staying at his parents whilst he saves enough to rent somewhere. Today I opened a letter from Capital One (I have a credit card with them) without looking at the name on the front (as he doesn't have one) and it transpires that he's applied for a card with them using this address.

I'm furious. I'm having to claim housing benefit/tax credits etc to get by and I'm concerned that if he continues to apply for things using this address it will look like he still lives here. Even if that doesn't happen, he walked out so obtaining credit is his problem now.

Any way I can stop this? I'll ask him not to use my address obviously, but he's not exactly behaving in an honourable way so I'd rather not rely on his word

Thanks in advance for any suggestion/experience

I would send the form back saying not known at this address.

He is acting fraudulently lying to financial services companies about where he lives.

Thanks for your reply. I know he's acting fraudulently - as does he, as he works for a bank!

I can't send this one back as, once I confront him with it he'll take it with him.

Would it be worth getting in contact with the credit card company?

He works for a bank?
Bloody hell.

Do you need to confront him with it?
Can't you just send it back and tell him that you have done so and to stop using your address?

You could contact experian & equitas and tell them that your ex no longer lives at that address.

It might be worth getting a free credit report from one of them to check everything is OK.

SardineQueen · 29/03/2012 12:17

If you call them I don't know that they will talk to you about it as you are not the customer IYSWIM he is, and they are quite strict on that stuff.

Experian will put a marker on your report so whenever anyone applies for credit under your address its flagged up. ring them up and speak to them and run a credit check on your address to see what you have registered there.
