Hi, first post here and hoping someone may be able to help me. I'm divorcing my husband and we were married abroad. I've been searching for my marriage certificate to send to the Court but can't find it. Does anyone know if I can go ahead and petition for divorce without it or will I need to try and get a copy from the country we married in?

thank you

You will need to have it to prove you got married, especially if it was abroad (I'm not a lawyer though - just what I've heard)...but the country's embassy or even website would probably tell you who to write or email to to ask for a copy to be reissued. Usually it's that country's equivalent of the Registry of Births, Marriages and Deaths.

I had this problem as we married in the US. Thankfully I did find it but it was worrying. have you checked the loft?

Hope you find it soon.
