Accu-Chek Instant (smallish white machine) having fault?

Hi,

I have had my little machine a couple of years nearly and wonder if it’s dying. I may have got it second hand or as an ex demo from my doctors surgery.

Latest batteries don’t seem to last and it is chucking out higher than normal results - latest one is 10.6 when I seldomly go above 10’s, 1.5 hours after dinner.

Very first reading this morning upon waking disgustingly early, I was 4.5 40 minutes later on the wards bigger machine I’m 5.6 by their random check.

This is freaking me out the bad foot bandaged up on a pillow the ball of sole feels like a nice warm tap has been switched on and my good foot with slipper on feels cold. Going to start a diary of these feet I think.

🙏

  1. contact Accucheck directly and ask for a bottle of control solution so you can check if your meter is testing accurately. They may suggest sending you a new meter.

  2. What is happening with your foot/feet? Why is it bandaged? An infection can cause high readings. Who is monitoring it?

3)are you in hospital, it’s not entirely clear what’s going on from your post? If you are then ask if there is a diabetes specialist nurse you can see for some information and a new blood glucose meter.

I managed to get to the ward bathroom wash my hands as I’m aware I touched my wound and have come back and called the buzzer for the nurse.

They are reluctant to take the whole wound dressing off saying maybe the overriding bandaid is too tight, my cellulitis leg and foot is wrapped up like a Christmas tree. They tend to it every other day wrapping it up completely.

Really hope this doesn’t get me stuck here any longer, maybe it is a good sign nerves starting to come back. Just don’t want to leave anything to chance.

A close friend has just shared their diabetic readings and they are akin to my brother who is a serve diabetic. I’m not in either of their leagues.

I’m a baffling case me. Ahhhhh Nothing really supports anything. They don’t know the type of cellulitis.
I grew a ball of fluid 3 weeks ago hanging of part of the lower leg which took me to theatre for removal so just dealing with dead skin and potential need for skin graph as an area has remained black.

I got leaflets from diabetes UK but my family feel it isn’t that, I’ll invest in a new meter I think.
