What to do with a 10mg pen ordered prematurely

Hi I'm currently on my last week of a 12.5mg pen and as it's reduced my hb1ac my GP and I have agreed that I will stay on 12.5mg.

However initially after 2 weeks I decided to drop down to 10mg and was hoping to start Tuesday 8th April however due to a mix up I wasn't able to pick up the 10mg until the 10th April. In the meantime I had decided to persevere with the 12.5mg and have been prescribed anti-emetic Cyclizine as the nausea after each dose of 12.5mg in the 1st two weeks was quite intense. It's not too bad now.

However I don't know what to do with the 10mg pen as can't return it as they don't if it's been tampered with. My GP has said keep it (currently in the fridge along with the next 12.5mg pen).

As I am staying on 12.5mg to try and get my hb1ac to 6.5% so my Metformin dose can be reduced I'm wondering how one would get 12.5mg from a 10mg or is it only possible to get 10mg from 12.5mg?

Expiry date of 10mg is 11/2026 but what if I don't get round to using it? It seems a waste of money if it is returned to be disposed of. I'm cross with myself for being so hasty in ordering it and now I'm stuck with it.

There's nothing you can do unfortunately. If it's left the pharmacy, they will just dispose of it. Keep it and if you never end up using it, it'll just need to be disposed of in a pharmacy.
