Early signs of gestational diabetes?

Hope it’s ok to post here, I don’t know if I’m just being paranoid or whether this is worth bringing up with the doctor.

I’m 28 weeks pregnant with my first, I’m not overweight and never have been, fairly healthy diet, no family history of diabetes but I do have thyroid disease (and a family history too).

In the last month I’ve noticed a few symptoms, they seem to relate to gestational diabetes but it’s hard to tell as there’s a lot of crossover with ordinary pregnancy symptoms! Some blurry vision and visual disturbances (but optician said eyes are fine), peeing a lot and urine is darker (and a decent amount) especially at night (up 5+ times a night), some headaches, feeling faint and low blood pressure, random bouts of nausea (not morning sickness), dry mouth and more thirsty.

I wondered if anyone here has had gestational diabetes, did you have to request a test or were you offered a test due to risk factors? What is the test? How did the condition affect you and your pregnancy? Did you develop T2 diabetes after the birth?

Thanks

I was tested (fasting glucose test) for it but was just under the threshold. It was 23 years ago so I don't remember much in the way of symptoms other than craving (and eating) sugary foods.

As I was below the level I didn't have any monitoring after birth but did have another baby 13 months later and didn't have any further interventions so presumably no sugar in my tests.

I have however gone on to develop type 2 diabetes despite still being slim.

I'm sure they would ensure that you are tested if you mentioned your concerns.

Good luck.

Just to add that baby 1 was 9lb 13, a larger baby being a result of GD. Baby 2 was only 8lb 3oz.

I have been overweight at times after DC but not falling into obese, and have generally had an normal bmi and currently slightly underweight.
