Hi all. I was wondering what's the most accurate or the nhs brand for the blood glucose finger prick test?
Thanks x

Different trusts use different meters. I’ve worked in one that uses ascensia contour, and one that uses Accucheck. They all have to meet pretty stringent standards to be approved for sale/use. Generally it’s picking what suits you best that’s most relevant. Some use really small amounts of blood, some will test blood and ketones (using different strips for each), some will work with apps, some you can alternate site test (though finger tip is most accurate site).

It’s also important to do regular control solution tests to make sure they test in range (companies will send this to you for free). Make sure you keep the strips and meter in the correct way (heat damages both, so don’t leave them in a car or in the sun on an hot day, and humidity can mess up the test strips).

@Conqueeftador

Thanks so much for your reply. I just purchased a accucheck from boots. Do I need to do anything to calibrate it or anything? Or should it be good to go?
