Husband is almost completely sedentary and has put on a lot of weight over lock downs. His feet are a bit of a mess. They are kind of reddish, covered in small wounds all the time. He has had a bad fungal nail infection in all his nails for over a year and it's so painful he can't walk properly. He refuses to go to the doctor, says he's too embarrassed. I did the Google thing and it suggested these can be symptoms of diabetic foot, so now I'm very concerned. Do these symptoms ring a bell with anyone?

I’m afraid he’s got to go to the doctors, it could be anything, but will be treatable even if it is diabetes. At the moment doctor may ask for photos to be sent over and will do a telephone call, but he will probably also need to see a nurse for blood tests. Doctors have seen everything and they would rather see him and get him treated than let him suffer unnecessarily. Good luck and make the call first thing today as soon as they open.

Yes, he really needs to go to the doctor before it becomes more serious and it’s off to the hospital or something that does him permanent damage.

Diabetics are more prone to fungal infections - especially (but not always) if blood sugar levels are running high.
