Hi ladies,

I was diagnosed 4/5 weeks ago with gestational diabetes and I have been doing really well on the diet since! But if im honest I've had enough of cooking!!

Looking for takeaway ideas that won't put me in the red! I dont eat fish or seafood lol

My daughter is type 1 so a little different from gestational, but in terms of keeping blood sugars down I would probably say a chicken shashlik would be good - if you like Indian that is? Chicken pakora is also usually a low carb option? Some of the veggie side dishes would be good too, like the spinach and aubergine/ okra?

Takeaway is hard because of the sauces. Best thing is to ask for anything you can with a sauce on the side.

Indian - anything that is grilled with no sauce. So chicken or paneer basically! You can also ask the restaurant which of their sauces have the lowest sugar.

Chinese - I was fine with vegetables in garlic sauce. Soy sauce also fine, but heavy in salt, so don’t have it every night! Steer clear of black bean or sweet chilli or anything like that; it’s the devil.

Middle Eastern/Greek - tzatziki or that whipped feta and chilli dip or a bit of houmous with cucumber instead of bread. Grilled lamb or chicken. Greek salad. Moussaka (but don’t eat the potatoes if it’s a cheesy one).

Italian - melanzane; salads; some cannelloni might be OK (the pizza express one is about 32g carbs - I used to eat one with pasta and then the filling and sauce and that was ok!)

Burgers - no bread and find one that does courgette fries (eg Byron - I now prefer their courgette fries to potato ones!)

Kebabs - fine in a salad box, no bread or chips

Subway - get a salad box instead of a roll
