Blood sugar of 23 mmol

If blood sugar spikes to 23 after eating just a hot cross bun is this a problem. It was 6.4 after a couple of hours. I am not classed as diabetic.

That's very high even for a diabetic, OP. Are you sure you tested correctly and that you've got the right measurement? May well have been residue on your fingers or a meter error. If it is right, you need to see a dr immediately, I would say.

Fingers crossed it's just a meter error.

(6.4 after a couple of hours is within normal range, but still on the high side for just a hot cross bun, I would say. Tests have shown that most truly normal people are under 5.5 after two hours regardless of what they eat - see the phlaunt diabetes website)

Sounds like a silly question but had you washed your hands between eating it and testing? If not, there could be sugar on your finger skewing the result.

Well I have managed to check twice today and it has been 6.1 and 6.3 so I’m hopeful the high result was just a blip. Sugar on my hand or something. I’ll keep an eye on it though.

That's good news, OP. Test test test after every meal, sometimes 1 hour to get the peak; sometimes 2 hours to get how your body is coping with returning to normal - that's how you'll know what's going on.

🤞🏻 For lots of nice low readings!
