I was diagnosed pre-diabetic earlier this week and am still reeling. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised as my Mum developed T2 a few years before she died and I seem to have inherited other conditions from her (hypertension and AMD). I have read everything I can find on the web and am trying to process the wealth of information. It’s all starting to make sense and this thread has clarified some of my confusion, for which I’m very grateful.

My GP said something about enrolling me on a course and that must be the NHS offering linked above. I’ve already cut out the naughty things I know I shoudn’t eat and I am prepared for the mental adjustment I now need to make. Fortunately I have a very supportive wife who is bound to keep me on the straight and narrow, but threads like this really do help.

If I may, I’d like to return with a few questions as my understanding improves. For starters, when you talk about the amount of carbs you eat at each meal, how is that determined? In the case of Weetabix, for example, do you just weigh the two biscuits and their combined weight plus the sugar you might sprinkle on them is your carb intake for that meal?

My OH reversed pre-diabetes with the LCHF diet. He lost 20+kg over a year, has kept the weight off for four years now and his HbA1c has gone down and stayed well below the threshold.
We love the LCHF diet and have never felt healthier.
