DF doesn’t only insist he’s cold but everyone is else is too

My DF has had dementia for a number of years. Symptoms probably started 10 years ago.

I know that it’s well documented that people with dementia often feel cold, and he does very regularly even when he’s sweating through a number of sets of pyjamas a night.

What he’s started doing now is insisting everyone is cold when he is. So you try to make him comfortable by suggesting he goes to somewhere warmer in the house but unless you are also dressed in thermals with windows and doors closed, he is unhappy and pesters and pesters.

So my question is has anyone else experienced this? Is this more of an extreme and advanced nature of the same thing?

My grandma only ever felt warm if she was in a room with a fireplace, it didn’t even need to be lit.

he is probably trying to make sense of what he is feeling but in a visual way.

Dementia can affect theory of mind so it's likely that he has lost the ability to understand that you aren't experiencing exactly the same as he is.

Have you tried the playing the YouTube channel on tv with the non stop roaring fire effect?

That might help him understand the situation.

This is a great idea.
