Some heartburn medications increase risk of Dementia?

Hi everyone.
My mum sadly died of Alzheimer’s at the beginning of September, and my dad has Lewy Body Dementia.

Having 2 parents with Dementia and approaching 60 myself, I worry about getting it myself constantly.

I’ve become aware of a study closely linking heartburn medication (which I have to take) with Dementia and am now panicking wildly.

Has anyone else read about this?
Off to panic a bit more 😭

I’m also concerned about this.

I had no clue about this.
DF took them like smarties and is currently in a dementia home. His DF also had dementia though too.

I am prescribed omeprazole as I also have naproxen but I take both as little as possible.

Im sorry for your loss Flowers it’s doubly cruel to have both parents affected.

It’s very worrying. I’ve taken them for years.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I wonder if B12 deficiency is the link as PPIs affect absorption of it and a deficiency in it can cause Dementia

That’s interesting. I’ve started taking B12 (and the other Bs)

You're best taking a sublingual tablet just in case

Not me, but my friend who’s has GORD and has taken PPIs for years, is very concerned about this.

I have both naproxen and omeprazole for migraine, I try to avoid taking either and stick to the migraine tablet only when I can. I think PPI's affect absorption of Vitamin B12 and low B12 has been linked to dementia so if you need to use a PPI perhaps consider taking B12.
