Dementia causing accusations of affairs and jealousy

Hi there, I hope someone can help or offer any advice. My Dad is 73 and has Alzheimer’s. He was diagnosed about three years ago and is on medication. He lives with my mum and up until now he’s been quite happy, a little confused, difficulty with memory and carrying out day to day task. He also has quite a lot of hallucinations, they don’t cause him distress though.
Over the past week or so, he’s started accusing my mum of having affairs and of leaving him alone all day. Even though she will have been with him all day. I saw it myself this evening and it was really distressing. He thinks I’m also lying to him about where she’s been. This is completely out of character for him and not something he ever would have done prior to the dementia. They’ve always been happy together. I’m really worried he might become aggressive towards her.

I think this might be quite common but how can we help him, where should we go for help.
Feeling pretty upset after seeing it tonight.
Thanks xx

My mum went through a phase of thinking my dad was having an affair due to her dementia. It was very distressing for everyone. Nothing we said or did convinced her otherwise. It coincided with other delusions that she also found very upsetting. I think eventually she was put on some antipsychotic medication which helped.

I'm sorry your df is going through this. Dementia is a terrible disease.

Thank you, he’s been to the doctors today as he was becoming more and more confused. His blood tests revealed he may have had a heart incident yesterday, he was dizzy and had some chest pains. He and my mum have been sent to A & E.
I hope he can get some meds to try and ease things and that maybe this has been the cause of his worsening symptoms.
Thanks again x
