Hi does anyone know of a company who would offer a car trip (approx 200 miles), for my in-laws who are elderly and my FiL has dementia. He's not too unwell with it but might need frequent stops. I just think a normal taxi might be less understanding of any issues arising and wondered if there is something a bit more tailored to this type of disability.
Thank you

I know a taxi driver who would do it, he's a friend, had a parent with dementia. Good safe driver. What area are you look for?

Lots of taxi firms have contracts with local authorities and the NHS to do patient transfers from hospital and commissioned services to take people into respite/day services. It's not beyond the scope of what they will be able to provide so you might be surprised.

Look for ones that offer e.g Airport taxi style services.

Oh thank you. I'm just looking to get a quote tbh and put the idea to my in-laws, my MiL is fiercely independent but she does hate driving far so I'm hoping she'll go for it. We are paying but she still might decline!

It would be from Worcester area to Weymouth in Dorset

@Mazzatron

Ive asked my friend, but neither end is near us, we're way East of that, but he'll tell me what a reasonable price would be.

we know a fair few drivers, they're a variable bunch!

but you'll find someone, nice taxi drivers will do it, no problem. I'll PM you the price when he gets back to me. Obviously the issue is they have to get back again🙄🙄

@TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination thanks for asking him and your input. I will give some companies a ring tmw.

Have you a Driving Miss Daisy near?

drivingmissdaisy.co.uk/ website is here, we had very a very good driver, he was trained in dementia awareness and was superb with transporting the person with dementia.

My parents are in Birmingham and regularly use someone for airport transfers to Heathrow etc. I’ll find out how they found him (they may be asleep so it might be tomorrow now).
