Just moved to Nursing home - when to visit

My Mum has just moved -2 days ago- in to a nursing home. She was hospitalised before that so for various reasons we haven't seen her for about a month now which seems like forever.

How long do you think we should wait before visiting? I heard from a friend that their family all visited their mum straight away and so she stayed in her room each day waiting for visitors instead of getting integrated with life in the home. Even now, years later, that seems to have affected her experience negatively. So I don't want to risk that, but how soon do you think would be ok?

Thanks for any ideas.

Why don’t you phone the home and ask them what their advice is? They will be the experts in this and will be able to tell you how’s she’s settling in and whether visitors are a good idea.
They’ll also have restrictions due to Covid I’m guessing so get that info from them at the same time.

Thank you @Lotsachocolateplease that is a good idea. We did ask when looking around but the lady who showed us the room was unclear and said we could book an appointment whenever we liked. But definitely worth asking on the phone. Like you say they are the experts. Thank you for your response.

How is your Mum generally? You are really the expert when it comes to her individual personality. My DGM was visited very soon after moving in to care as she was so very anxious and confused about where she was. She needed the reassurance of her family and the relief on her face when she saw us meant it was absolutely the right choice for her.
