My mother is 78 years old and two weeks ago was diagnosed with both Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer's. Her nursing home sent her to A&E ( Saturday night,) as she hadn't passed any urine in 2 days and hasn't opened her bowels in 5 days. She was fitted with a Urinary Catheter (for 1 week,) and sent back to her Nursing Home on Sunday morning.
The discharge letter from the hospital suggested my mother be given an enema, by a nurse at the Nursing Home. My mother is point blank refusing this and is also drinking very little, which doesn't help with the laxatives she was prescribed. I really don't want another hospital admission for my mother. Any suggestions?
