If SS are making a beat interest decision they are supposed to involve family and friends in the decision. That said, it will probably come down to cost

SS need to tell you how much money has been awarded, then they may give you a list of local homes that have vacancies within that price range. There is nothing stopping you from looking at homes and going back to SS asking if they will fund it, sometimes they will even if it's over their budget, sometimes they don't. Remember to make sure you look at the right home that can offer the best care for your mum, the nice looking fancy ones aren't always the best.
