ok sorry to be pathetic and birdy but I truely can no longer be arsed with this. We need a new car (not brand new) bigger then current one which will take 3 car seats in back

am thinking along lines of (god forbid) a mummy bus because we travel to ireland a lot and take massive amount of stuff and dog

so which is it and why : ford galaxy/ citreon c4 grand picasso/kia sedona blah blah blah

dh won't care one bit because if I make final decision here and its crap I get the blame

Jeremy Clarkston where are you when I need you?!?

Jeremy Clarkson actually reccommends the toyota corolla verso in the book DP has, apaprently it's his fave and the safets out of the more seater vehicles.

apparently verso has NO luggage space when all 7 seats in use one reviewer states only good for a brolly - unfortunately no use as would need at least room for pram/buggy

In which case I would consider if there is a roof rack on the car as well as having a roof box is invaluable. We have one and use it everytime we go away, and it doesn't stop you doing 90mph on the motorway, and it's waterproof. I put DW in it on one trip and she was as dry as a bone when she came out. Okay only kidding...

hana · 19/02/2008 14:14

very little boot space in touran if you're using seat 6 or 7.

check out a ford s-max. enough boot space in back with all seats for luggage and a buggy and kids stuff.

dizzydixies · 19/02/2008 14:21

we're considering roof box as well for times that we're off to ireland to see inlaws, dog in boot stuff on roof but didn't want to have to use one for everyday stuff

think am just going to have to go and try them all - I was hoping someone one here could give me honest opinion on fantastic car I could buy for £10

We have a Verso. It is great, but the back back seats are small. I can fit my Maclaren pushchair in the boot when they are up though (on it's side).
I can get an isofix stage 1 seat a Maxi cosi rodi and a booster across the back but it is a squeeze. When I pick up dd1's friend with a high back booster she sits on one of the seats in the boot.
It would be good with the roof box addition.
It is the safest car in its class which was our main reason for choosing it.....

VanillaPumpkin · 19/02/2008 16:18

I mean she sits in the boot seat rather than in the middle of the back seat as I don't think the highback will fit there and I can't be arsed to fight with the belts....

cluckyagain · 19/02/2008 16:22

Seat alhambra is the same as the vw and the old galaxy, but cheaper than the vw (nicer interior too) and more reliable than the galaxy (sorry - based on research and on friends who have them!!) Renault grand scenic vastly roomy but break down loads (again - personal experience - 3 times in 6 months from new!) The smaller ones (touran, verso, citroen new picasso) seemed to drive better but were only suitable for a family of 5 ft people and very small children who had no legs to get in the way.

harleyd · 19/02/2008 16:24

i have to say, i have had some bother with the electrics in my grand scenic
and the alarm has a mind of its own

cluckyagain · 19/02/2008 16:25

Oh and yes, they're all naffingly ugly, embarrasing to drive (sorry, sorry, sorry but dh and I hate them/ours) but the kids love them and they're horribly practical. Give me a few years and I'll swap one for a gas guzzling monster that looks a touch better (if I can ever afford one)

dizzydixies · 19/02/2008 16:38

clucky completely agree, dh slobbering over some audi 4x4 7seater thing but it comes in at about 40k so never going to be an option really lol

OP posts:
peanutbear · 20/02/2008 12:54

my seats arent ever taken out because the boot is big enough to fit my Pram with carrycot and my shopping but the do only have lap belts in the middle seats

we have the seats facing each other so the children can chat and play as we are going along

cluckyagain · 22/02/2008 08:32

Oh - meant to say - discussed this with car freak dh and he would suggest a new galaxy (if you can afford it) You can get some fabby deals online - for instance, the top of the range one (I forget which one!) is £23k ish in the ford dealerships but £18.5k on drive the deal.com (apparently was in what car or autocar this month) We drove one and it's really lovely to drive - insistent, very responsive and my sister now has one - really pleased with it.xx

dizzydixies · 22/02/2008 09:34

cluckyagain thank you, I think we've pretty much decided on the Galaxy but will test drive the citreon grand picasso as well just to make sure

Lovely - have fun!!

zebramama · 16/07/2008 11:51

We just bought a Grand C4 Picasso (Feb 07) and it is excellent. I am only 5'4" and it doesn't feel like driving a tank.
The 2nd row has 3 isofix points and the third row has 3 point seat belts for car seats as well.
When in 7 seat mode the luggage space is a bit restricted but I reckon that a suitcase and a double buggy would fit OK.

MmeLindt · 16/07/2008 12:12

Hi Dizziedixies,
did you see me waving at you from Broughty Ferry beach on Monday morning? You are on the other side of the water, are you not?

Have fun testdriving!

dizzydixies · 16/07/2008 20:02

yes am just over the other side
