Are any of you guys into gardening and DIY? I seem to be the only one on the freakin' planet that is.

I don't mean "into" as in "once mowed the lawn AND avoided mowing the poodle" - I mean every weekend in my muckies, digging, building, planting, sanding, making nice. It's like it's my hobby.

Is that odd?

seamonstr - one pond to have 'pretty fish' in and be looked after etc.. ..the other one to run wild and just have whatever arrives to live there in it.. ...strangely my dad saw and idea where you build big supports into the side of the pond and stick a fairly heavy duty grid on them so it's just under the surface.. ....means that you can't fall in a really deep bit.. ..which is nice.. ..and you can freak any overlooking neighbours out pretending to walk on water...

..oh an my lawn has only 'recovered'.. ...it's still a long way from being in the best of health

lljkk · 25/06/2007 16:42

DH is 33 and does all the gardening + any DIY project i let him.

HandyTrinkett · 25/06/2007 17:18

lljkk - you're not my wife are you???

nomdeplume · 25/06/2007 17:22

My DIY is the complete opposite to you, seamonstr. I'm the one that fannies about in the garden and it's a day's job just to get him to put a shelf up

nomdeplume · 25/06/2007 17:22

My DH, not DIY

lol

seamonstr · 25/06/2007 18:22

I never thought I'd find myself enjoying the company of a single malt and the Times crossword of an evening. The other day, I was looking for a gig of some kind to go to. The Mostly Mozart festival at the Barbican was at least 200 times more appealing than an indie band at a grubby bar.

And you know that show "Grumpy Old Men"? I agree with every... word... they... say.

I am 31. God help me.

UnquietDad · 02/07/2007 15:42

I'm 38 and hate gardening and DIY, but I am increasingly p'd off at : loud pubs with no seats full of yakking young people, silly haircuts and piercings on said young people, unncessary slogans on T-shirts... etc, etc.

They say 40 is the new 30. This means 30 is the new 20, and 20 is the new 10. If that's true, it certainly explains the behaviour of a lot of the 20-year-olds I see out and about...

Hubby loves gardening - I love the idea of having one of those lovely gardens with big clumps of flowers that you see on TV - but I really just cant get into it.

I also have a pruning problem - takes me ages to get round to it then I just cant stop, its like theres some kind of addictive pruning narcotic in the handles of my secateurs when I come around from my frenzy my shrub has become a twig.

BigGitDad · 02/07/2007 17:16

pmsl unquietdad, all too true

funkimummy · 02/07/2007 17:24

I'm 29 and luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurve my garden. I like mowing the lawn, infact, DH is banned from mowing it because he doesn't put the stripes in it properly. I like planting, and weeding, painting the fences and decking, and generally making it feel serene and tranquil, and yes it is most definitely my hobby.

My friend is 27 and has her own little allotment.

All my other friends think I've finally lost it, but I like it and it keeps me busy!

mummylin2495 · 03/07/2007 17:06

i also do most of the gardening .we have a largish pond which i leave entirely to dh,this one contains Koi bu we have a smaller pond where the frogs seem to like to live and spawn. I do all sowing ,planting hanging baskets etc .I just hate dh even mowing the lawn because if there are any flowers laying slightly on the grass he will just mow straight over them !

I had the most FAB pad thai tonight, it is currently my top favorite dinner.

lou33 · 03/07/2007 23:27

omg just stoppit!

i had beans on toast

Carmenere · 03/07/2007 23:37

Lou it is so easy to make seriously, just stirfry some veg and prawns with soy, fish sauce, sweet chilli and lime juice, add some beaten egg, stir it a bit more, throw in rice noodles and coriander. stir fry it a bit more, serve with lime wedges and chopped peanuts.
Now I know you are a thai afficianado so I have no idea if it is authentic but it tastes pretty good. make it tommorow.

lou33 · 03/07/2007 23:47

yeh i should really, the kids love thai as well
