Is Cambridge station to Papworth an easy cycle?

Is there bike parking at Papworth? I only ask as our local hospital doesnt have patient bike parking (fgs)

TIA

Do you mean Papworth hospital? The new cambridge south railway station is a our a 30 second walk from there!

We've been told "Cambridge Biomedical Campus"

Is it really that close? Wow!

From Cambridge main station, it's about 2 miles, mostly in a straight line. From Cambridge South, it's right next door.

maslinpan · 22/07/2026 20:47

Cam South was built specifically to service the Biomedical campus, including Papworth, Addenbrookes etc.

MotherofPufflings · 22/07/2026 20:47

I'd say more like a 5 minute walk. But yes, it's very close.

Cambridge south station to Papworth hospital is a two minute walk. Literally. I did it for the first time yesterday.

Am a regular at Papworth so if I can be of any help give me a shout.

AnnaQuayRules · 22/07/2026 20:51

Do you mean Papworth Hospital? If so, very easy. It is literally next door to Cambridge South Station.

If you mean Papworth village then it's a very difficult cycle. It's not that far (maybe 12 miles) but there's not a cycle path all the way and the traffic is busy

KatyMac · 22/07/2026 20:53

2 miles is fine and probably easier than changing trains with our bikes

I think its the lung defense clinic - we havent been since it moved!

Do you have to change trains? Where are you coming from?

MotherofPufflings · 22/07/2026 21:01

Yes, there's bike parking - definitely at the entrance nearest the car park. Can't remember about the busway entranceoff the top of my head.

KatyMac · 22/07/2026 21:12

Yes I change at Cambridge coming from Ipswich

Thanks everyone, I reckon I can do this

Hi KatyMac.

The new Cambridge South station is just a two-minute walk from our hospital, or even quicker if you're on two wheels. There are a number of Sheffield bike stands around the perimeter of our hospital to which you can securely lock your bicycle. Alternatively Cambridge South has parking for 1,000 bikes, including secured cycle parking, if you wish to use that and walk instead.

Here's a quick video on our Instagram page to show just how close the station is to our hospital: https://www.instagram.com/reels/DaTSynZu_wW/

We hope that helps, but please let us know if you have any further transport-related questions.

Many thanks
Royal Papworth Hospital

My husband is the patient and has no mobility problems but I use my bike as a mobility aid and struggle with even short distances - I use my bike as a mobility aid

Although the courtesy bus might be a possibility

Thanks for replying
