Does anyone road cycle and can recommend a decent helmet/cycle camera that isn’t too expensive?

As above! DS cycles to work along some country lanes and some of the drivers come way too close/too fast. He’s hoping wearing a camera will help (I assume you can report bad driving but who knows if anything gets done)

I use the Garmin front and back radar cameras, they are fantastic but quite expensive. A lot of club members use the chilli tech cameras which are also good and a lot cheaper.

I’m not sure that a camera will affect how badly people drive. He might be better off wearing high viz everything ie helmet, clothing etc and gets flashing front & rear lights. Waiting until after he’s been knocked off to send some camera footage to insurers/police won’t make anyone feel better. I say this as someone whose family member was recently hit and is very lucky to still be alive.

He already does all that. I think he’s hoping to catch some idiots driving like morons and report them.

That's very commendable, OP.

There is a lot of bad driving around cyclists which does not kill them. The more cyclists have cameras and make reports then the more drivers will take note and improve their driving.

I have found that this actually makes a big difference. https://passpixi.com/

Our magnetic patches tell motorists their actions could be recorded using GoPro, Cycliq or other action cameras.

In our area it is Operation Snap. If you send clear footage of close passes to the police they will prosecute the driver. My DH has been hit recently, luckily only minor injuries, and even without photographs the police are taking action. It’s part of the Vision Zero campaign to reduce road deaths.

Those look a great idea, I think I’ll order some. I think even if you had no camera it would make motorists slow down as they’re noticeable.
