Oh, interesting, I've only dealt with Evans over the phone or online as they isn't one here. Chain reaction is my local bike superstore.

BikeRunSki · 09/03/2017 19:21

I think Chain Reaction have been bought out by Wiggle havn't they? But their (CR) are cyclists which helps! I have only ever used them online, but they have always been very good.

Yeah, Bike, they used to be brilliant, you could turn up at their warehouse and get anything from the site and they'd build you bikes to try if you asked in advance. The staff are still good though.

katymac · 12/03/2017 08:19

Thanks guys - I think I'm going to get an electric bike

We are dicussing being a one car family so it makes sense

Just to second a pp, I would not recommend buying from Evans. I bought a bike from them and a year later ended up at the local bike shop buying something that actually worked for me. A good local bike shop will make sure you get a good fit and will make adjustments until the bike is set up perfectly for you.

I don't know where electric bikes are bought but it will still make a difference making sure you get a good fit.

Your trip sounds amazing OP!

katymac · 27/03/2017 10:36

I bought an electric bike & I love it!

Sunshinenow · 27/03/2017 10:41

Or if you find a bike you really like, you can easily get electric kit motors to fit on!

I have a Marin, with a motor fitted. :)

Sunshinenow · 27/03/2017 10:43

Ouch! Sending you good wishes and a virtual icepack!

katymac · 30/03/2017 11:11

I think I'll be back on by the weekend - it was much more minor than I expected Wink

I need pannierbags/saddlebags as I can't fit a basket on - any ideas where I should look?

OP posts:
FlaviaAlbia · 30/03/2017 19:30

Basil bags are so pretty

www.basil.com/product-category/bicycle-bags/

I got Ortliebs instead as I needed waterproof for commuting but I did sigh sadly when I had to pass over Basil..

Sunshinenow · 30/03/2017 19:53

They are lovely :)

katymac · 30/03/2017 21:03

What choice

I think the problem for ordinary ones is that the battery is on the back so it's higher & they don't stretch far enough down to be secure

I love the ones you have shown me, thanks

OP posts:
Sunshinenow · 30/03/2017 21:13

I don't think they need to secure. I only ever use the top clips which would fit on your raised rear metal carrier. The bottom attachment is usually I bit of bungy.

Sunshinenow · 30/03/2017 21:19

These useful. They sell them in aldi from time to time

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-PEDALPRO-SINGLE-WATERPROOF-CYCLE-PANNIER-BAG-BIKE-BICYCLE-COMMUTE-SHOPPING-/401257313349?hash=item5d6cccb445:g:xp8AAOSw4CFYrXxB

Or for truely waterproof go orbitel.

Sunshinenow · 30/03/2017 21:19

Ortlieb
