Being an event organiser is an eye opener!

Somehow, I have ended up running a sportive. And doing the admin for a MTB race, childrens event and family ride the same weekend.

I promise, heartily, to enter non professional events a lot earlier, and to read all of the information they publish online

Its fun though, and I'm learning so much. And I get to chat with a cycling celeb on Sunday which is very exciting - he's riding the sportive

But you wouldn't believe the amount of stuff you need! 1500 cable ties just for the signage...

I know - 1500 safety pins are in my registration box! We realised last year at the mountain biking that there were no scissors to take numbers off bikes (cable ties on) which was a bit of an issue.

And I had to work out how much cake and flapjack each long distance rider would need. I've never paid any attention to that!

DH co-organised a TT a few weeks ago, they ordered eleventy-billion safety pins 2 days b4 the event, picked up at 4pm for the evening TT (DH has to borrow someone else's passport to do the pickup, not the most organised TT, I guess ).

The rest of the committee refer to my 'spreadsheet of doom' which has everything on it that needed sourcing, but has been invaluable as I then have a running total of exactly what has been spent - and for next year.

I haven't been involved with a proper time trial yet, but they do always have the air of a last minute thing in our club. Though that may just be the people organising them!

Today someone is dropping off approx 500 road signs and I need to start the process of putting together feedstation boxes from the mountain of energy products in the hall ( v generous donation, but some are rather sticky). After my real work!

Oh good luck CMOT! I had it in my head that all my training would go towards your sportive this weekend then I got pneumonia and the furthest I have ridden is 10 miles so had to rule myself out. Do it again next year, just for me?

DS has just done a sportive and all the cable ties just for bike numbers were boggling, it looked like a massive amount of organisation goes into them. They are fantastic for the riders with the opportunity to ride a lovely route, all signposted and supported with feed stations. I think we'll do a lot more next year. Chapeau to you!

Just for you MrSlant! I had a meeting with our bignamebikemanufacturer sponsor last week, and they were saying 'next year we can...' and it was a realisation that I'm down to keep running this!
