What can I say? This is from the man who's nation eats snails.

Personally I think Chirac has a point about British food. However it has improved a lot since we imported other styles of cooking into the country. Have to say that I was not that impressed by German food when I visited the country - although their cakes are fantastic!! It seemed quite similar to British food so I don't think we are alone there. Last time I was in France I had a couple of appalling meals out, but I have to admit that this was in the Dordogne and the area seemed over run by Brits.

spacedonkey · 05/07/2005 16:42

What rubbish. Heston Blumenthal was interviewed on the news earlier on and said Chirac would be welcome to dine at the fat duck

oh dear

swiperfox · 05/07/2005 17:20

regardless of how bad or not British is, the man is a prize twat.

SoupDragon · 05/07/2005 17:21

He has a point to a certain extent but some of his comments were inapproriate for a head of state.
"One cannot trust people whose cuisine is so bad." and "The only thing they have ever done for European agriculture is mad cow disease,"

CountessDracula · 05/07/2005 17:28

TBH I have had some of the worst meals of my life in France (and some of the best!) There is this myth that all french food is great and it ain't true.

I love lots of british food. I think it depends on what you were brought up on. I am addicted to scones and jam and you can't get more british than that. Having said that I quite like some Finnish food too, I am partial to black bread and pickled fish.

I have a friend who swears by one of her mothers dishes from China which consists of chickens feet in goo and is utterly disgusting to my pallet. Each to their own.
