I just had a choir practice for our church carol service which is on the 20th.
Unfortuantley we don't have enough people to have a regular choir so we try and pull one together just for Easter and Christmas.
This year I have 6 sopranos and 8 trebles (well 7 trebles are actually sopranos are they're girls) - will get 2 more on the night (adults) who already know the stuff. The odd tennor/bass/alto that I sometimes get some years didn't want to this year as "there's no enough of them"
Half of them can't read music - but can sing, and enjoy it, the others are "seasoned" singers.
We're not doing anything fancy for the service - the "Choir" piece is Kendricks "Like a Candle Flame", and the only other "complicated" stuff are some of the descants.
But we've just had a practice and it was great. Even though it was mostly unison they sounded great together, we all had fun as well, there were no grumbles and moans about "stuff" and for the first time in years I've come out of a practice on a high.
Which says something about the moaners......as this is the first year that I've been here (6th Christmas) that we haven't had at least one person on SATB - so in theory it should have been depressing - but it wasn't. They all wanted to be there and threw themselves into the singing.
AND they've all said they'll try and make it for Easter so I've got time to find some nice stuff for Sops to do then
