Simon Amstel stand up tour

well after a horrendous drive to the venue coupled with queues at near by Wagamammas he was going to have to be bloody funny to make up for having a bag of chilli crisps and half a lager for your tea.
ANd thus he was.
We were also thwarted by the MOST unfunny support act ever witnessed who seemd to ram four rape " jokes" into a 20 minute set.. issues? him?

Also Amstels " sitting around waiting while slagging off everyone else coming in" was irritating inter war jazz which while maybe comedic and quirky sounding in an office in london, in everywhere else made you want to punch ANYONE nearby.
the audience were of three types

  1. strangely hairy and overweight- male and female.
  2. indie woman (short cropped hair, terrifying eye make up, strange clothes that dont really go and an accessorizing boyfriend)
  3. Town girls in glitter.

At least one of the above was to be disappointed in AMstels set as it was NO buzzcocks. It was really thought provoking and very clever. A lot of the gags were lost on the audience. I almost wanted to apologise at one point where I laughed( as it transpired was appopriate) where the rest of hte audience ahhed. Not a highlight.
The cat gag i loved.

BUT it was only an hour. No encore. NOthing. Evereyone shifted around strangely at the end and a big " was that it?" lurked.

it kept us thinking and talking all th way home, no bad thing surely?

Yes i did hate the jazz thing, it was naff.

MusterMix · 15/10/2009 16:05

istn it funny when you dont find someone funny you think "it must be me" then you think "no he wasnt funny" but lurkign in the back is a hint that you might be comically inadequate.

the cleverest guy we have seen apart from Sir Simon of AMstell was old Brissle guy - the blonde off that terribel mock the week show.
him
very clever and funny

I dont find a few people funny that most people do, Russel Brand gets on my tits as does Michael Macintyre and Tim Minchen (sp?) i don't think to much about it tbh, i just like who i like and thats that really.

brimfull · 15/10/2009 16:07

TitsalinaBumsquash · 15/10/2009 16:08

MusterMix · 15/10/2009 16:08

TitsalinaBumsquash · 15/10/2009 16:09

Lol, i am very much a Southern dullard im afraid.

TitsalinaBumsquash · 15/10/2009 16:11

I am in love with Russel Howard, i watched his dvd and couldn't breath for laughing DP was quite alarmed! He has a new show out soon cant wait!

brimfull · 15/10/2009 16:12

have just googled howard guy

never heard of him

saw him last night on mock thouhg -he's worth seeing is he?

TitsalinaBumsquash · 15/10/2009 16:14

Well i think he is really funny, but i have a 'quirky' sense of humour apparently!

I liked his last tour, it was funny but also quite emotional in parts, he was talking about how amazing it is to be alive.
He does a lot of jokes about his family.

Podrick · 15/10/2009 16:21

I actually fancy Russell Howard for some unfathomable reason. Maybe he is a perfect gene match for me and I have subconciously registered this.

angelene · 15/10/2009 16:31

I had a really dirty sex dream about Russell Howard recently. I really don't fancy him at all so no idea where it came from.

And it was at Fulham Football Club too

MusterMix · 15/10/2009 16:49

frrrreak out.

OP posts:
Podrick · 15/10/2009 17:51

well i can tell you it's a whole lot more freaky if you fancy him but don't get why MM. Do you not fany him yoursefl or are you immune to his somerset charms?

mollyroger · 15/10/2009 17:55

podrick, I really fancy him too. But if he wasn't funny, I wouldn't.
I also fancy tim minchin though so...

Podrick · 15/10/2009 18:08

Who is Tim Minchin mollyroger - are we love rivals for all men or just for Russell I wonder...

I have a weird suspicion that I might fancy Russell Howard even if he wasn't funny, and even though he isn't exactly outrageously good looking!!!!

ShowOfHands · 15/10/2009 18:20

I really fancy RH. His lightbulb in mouth sketch from the dvd reduces me to a non-breathing wreck.

SIL is going to see Tim Minchin tonight, he's very clever.

So, Simon Amstell, young annoying bloke off Popworld. He's funny is he?

MusterMix · 15/10/2009 18:27

I dont like to follow the crowd

OP posts:
mollyroger · 15/10/2009 21:36

tim minchin

Heathcliffscathy · 15/10/2009 22:01

yes richmond!

so 17 in one set and 18 in the other. maybe he's had his bday but maybe it is made up and he was 16±
