My Mum has expressed an interest in taking the DDs together or on their own to a few shows over the next 12 months in the West End. Just wondered what you had seen recently with your DCs, what age they are, what you thought of it and what you would like to see.

We have seen Mary Poppins and Stomp. She mentioned Joseph, Lion King, Dirty Dancing, Oliver, Sound of Music.

My concern, if I have one, is that some of the content in e.g. Sound of Music is too daunting or Dirty Dancing is too much about sex, abortion etc What are your experiences?

I have seen Sound of Music and there were lots of children there, seemed suitable to me.

Don't think Dirty Dancing would be good. I think adults in part like it cos we remember the film, and your DDs won't have that memory. Also quite a bit about abortion.

Never seen it , and DS not into it, but HSM is still on I think.

Overall though I think Joseph would get my vote.

Seen Joseph - it was good, short and fast paced but really Lee Mead carried it. ds 10, dd 7. He analysed the staging and story, she loved the music and visual impact.

Yes... thats what I feared about Dirty Dancing. Have booked Joseph now, and may try to get tickets for Sound of Music, I cant bear HSM!

I'm taking mine (8.5 and 3.5) to Joseph this Wednesday. They've seen The Wizard of Oz recently and they enjoyed it.

MingMingtheWonderPet · 15/09/2008 22:10

I'm with on not being able to bear HSM! I have escaped so far with DS1, but I fear DD with be a different matter!

Enjoy Joseph, it will be great

Not going to early January, right before Lee Mead's contract expires! Wizard of Oz is presumably a pre cursor to Wicked?

We saw Joseph last night, with Craig Chalmers in the role. It was a fantastic night. Wonderfully camp and cringing lyrics but we all loved it. CC and some other guy signed merchandise after the gig. they were both so tiny and young and shy. Just kiddies, really. My DD1 (3.5) loved the music.

Took DD 11 to see HSM and Hairspray recently.

HSM is bearable, unfortunately the audience wasn't too many wriggly under 5's who started talking as soon as there was a quiet song or a little bit of talking. Also inconsiderate parents who bought them light sabres to wave around.

Hairspray is one of the best shows I have ever seen. Just so much fun and will probably speak to adults and children on different levels. We both want to see it again.

Also saw Spamalot of with DD, DS 13 and DH.

DD enjoyed it but I think it appeals to teenage boys more.

christywhisty · 28/09/2008 20:13

I have seen two west end versions of Joseph so didn't really want to see it again, but I have heard Lee Mead is going to tour with Jesus Christ Superstar, so will take DC's to see that.

NoblesseOblige · 28/09/2008 20:15

saw HSM - story was utter utter shite but performers were v good.

i want to see Wicked - am trying to organise theatre break for dh and i - our compromise is Spamalot

christywhisty · 28/09/2008 20:28

Wicked is well worth seeing, DD was obsessed with it for months after she saw it and even DH had the cd in the car. It's on my list to see again one day.
