Anyone want to try writing a Valentine poem?

Hi all. Sorry I have not contributed to the poetry threads for a while. My creativity is feeling reasonably refreshed now. I am home today with a poorly 4 year old instead of at my writing class.

Anyone fancy writing a Valentine?

And if so do you want a critique like I used to do? Or would you prefer just to share?

a valentine to my beautiful dd..

perfect blue eyes like stars in the sky
perfect pink skin..if a little dry
perfect little button nose
perfect lips, like a beautiful rose
perfect chubby hands both one and two
my perfect baby, i love you

made it up when she was tiny(now 21 months), but sing it to her all the time

Aaah evesmama. I used to say things like that to my dd when she was tiny.

Now she's 15, her room is of the kind that attracts vermin, 'I don't f*ing care' is her favourite mantra and she runs up phone bills 3 times the size of the rest of the family's.

Not so tempted any more

oooh looking forward to that

O dearest hubby,
Great love of mine,
I write this poem,
It's a Valentine whine.
You never remember
To get me a card.
It's just once a year-
It's not that hard.
I'd love some flowers
But you always say
They'll all be reduced
The following day.
I know you love me,
But romance ain't your thing.
I should count myself lucky
I got a wedding ring!

I wrote this one for DH last year.

You are my love, my life, my heart, my soul,
The missing piece of my heart where once there was a hole,
With you in my life I am now complete,
You're the soulmate I thought I would never meet,
I love you more each day that goes by,
And whatever happens that love will will never die,
You are my best friend and my reason for living,
My heart and soul I will always be giving,
I hate each moment that we are apart,
When you're not around there's an ache in my heart,
I live for the moments we share together,
And hope that we keep on sharing them forever.

Flowers

Some men never think of it.

I love Wendy Cope - I might print that off and display it somewhere prominent. In fact...I will!

the best one of modern times (IMHO) is ' Valentine' by Carol Anne Duffy. Sorry but I can't manage links as I am not very good at this tech stuff, maybe someone else could ?

i would like some childrens poetry books for kids aged 11. if anyone has any going for free alternatively links to printable websites equally as good

also could someone give me advice on critiquing poetry with children. i have done different kinds of stanzas and rhyming schemes, metaphores similies, first person 3 persoon - what am i missing?

Cant remember who wrote this but it is lovely..

It started out a trickle and became a bubbling brook, now my love is a river and my heart an open book.

Wrote this in a card once...Bit CHEEEESEY, but it worked!!

When the night is cold and lonely,
When tomorrow is far from view,
When my dreams are far and distant,
That's the time I think of you.
You could chase away the darkness,
You could make my dreams come true,
You could change all my tomorrows,
Are you cold and lonely too?

Warned you it was cheesey!! It worked though...He's upstairs bathing DD's 1 and 2

Wondermum, it is a little cheesy, but aren't Valentines supposed to be?

Would make good lyrics.
