Erm haven't seen it but have read about it and seen a couple of clips. I have to admit to finding Birtwistle hard going, but I can imagine that in the flesh it would be a great experience.
I was very cheesed off about a Newsnight Review of it last week when they didn't manage to get a single reviewer who had any interest in contemporary music. They all seemed utterly baffled by it.

I know! I saw that too.
I was very irritated.
I mean what is the point of getting Julie Myerson to say "I don't know anything about this kind of music so I am not sure what to think about it"

it really wasn't hard going, it was very tender and moving
but thanks for coming an talking to me about it I feel a bit less lonely

And when Julie Myerson said she would have liked the "music" but didn't like the singing! Eh? Why the distinction? They wouldn't come on and be that blase about not "getting" a book or a play or a film.

didn't like the singing

the singing was sublime, actually

It'll be on R3 at the end of May.
