...inspired b y the current thread about albums you feel you should try/like but can't/don't...
I would suggest Transformer by Lou Reed - I first heard it as a teenager and love every track probably - still like it a lot now.

Boys From the Abbatoir by Walking The Witch.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 27/04/2008 22:44

Waking The Witch even!

Tinker · 27/04/2008 22:49

I've wanted to get a Sigur Ros album for ages but didn't know what to get. So, now I do thanks to this thread.

LazyLinePainterJane · 28/04/2008 07:43

yay tinker! You'll love it.

I hope

Staralfur is the most beautiful song...

WowOoo · 28/04/2008 07:48

I like loads here!
Listened to Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley last night. Try to have a listen if you haven't. (Jeff's voice is sooo lush)
Also had best of Chaka Khan and Nina Simone for somthing bit more upbeat and soulful.

SirDigbyChickenCaesar · 28/04/2008 07:53

if you ever get the chance to get some canadian music...

Blue Rodeo - Five Days in July
Sarah Harmer - All of Our Names
Weeping Tile - Eepee

schneebly · 28/04/2008 07:55

The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots

schneebly · 28/04/2008 07:57

oh and Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel!

WowOoo · 28/04/2008 07:58

have written those down Sir Dig.. What are they similat to? Heard of Feist? Like her voice, but albums get a bit samey.

Are all of you iPodders? I'm not so have to go to record library and actually order and see some real CD's... Quite nice!

Think we'll have Kinks or Lou Reed for the car, if I can find em...

WowOoo · 28/04/2008 08:00

Shneeb. DO you realise S and G Bridge over ... willl be in my head ALL DAY now?!!!
Sod the CD's for car trips. Will just annoy my son instead.

WowOoo · 28/04/2008 08:01

Annoy my son....By singing loudly I mean! Dh going now, so will look later.

BecauseImWorthIt · 28/04/2008 08:10

Goodness some fab recommendations here - Dark Side of the Moon is indeed a classic. Best listened too all the way through without stopping, and loud! And for that extra 1970s feeling just replace all your clear/white light bulbs with red ones and open a litre bottle of Strongbow.

Would also add The Hurting, by Tears for Fears and Frank by Amy Winehouse.

schneebly · 28/04/2008 08:13

Wow - I have been singing S & G 'I am a rock' all morning after reading someone post they were an island

WowOoo · 28/04/2008 08:21

Ha Ha. Will change song in my head to that now!! Damn! Love it...!
How on earth can I listen to whole album all the way through, how do you lot do it?
I need time. (and less of the children's CD's) Lazytown is doing my head in a bit...

BecauseImWorthIt · 28/04/2008 08:31

It helps to have teenage children who think it's uncool to spend time with their parents!

southeastastra · 28/04/2008 08:33

tragically hip, fully completely

Fillyjonk · 28/04/2008 08:38

second sigur ros and pulp

I am quite liking goldfrapp's newish album atm (7th heaven) though can't make up my mind if it is really kylie in disguise.

regina spektor's stuff good though sadly now played in starbucks

more people should give very early REM a go, imo.

MissKubelik · 28/04/2008 08:41

Yo La Tengo - I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One

Super Furry Animals - Mwng (a Welsh language album so not many people bought it, but it is great, even if you can't understand a word!)

FAWKEOFF · 28/04/2008 08:43

the kooks....konk
alanis morrisette....jagged little pill

U2...the joshua tree

GentleOtter · 28/04/2008 08:44

Last train to Lhasa - Banco de Gaia here....an amazing album.

squeaver · 28/04/2008 08:46

The Space Between Us and As If to Nothing by Craig Armstrong. And then you'll start hearing the tracks EVERYWHERE - TV sound editors love Craig Armstrong

Amapoleon · 28/04/2008 08:55

one of my favourites is International Velvet by Catatonia

moondog · 28/04/2008 10:17

Miss,plenty of people bought it.
They just happen to be (mostly) people who speak Welsh.

I work with the mother of one of the SFAs. Heard that album in her car before general release. V. good.

MargaretMountford · 28/04/2008 10:23

MissKubelik (the apartment yes ?) -- we love Super Furrys - also Gorky's Zygotic Mynci and Gruff Rhys album - Candylion
