they are brilliant but I don't some how think they fit into culture.

most music doesn't,
also music is such a large part of a lot of peoples lives surely it deserves it's own topic.

I'd love to have some lighthearted quip in response but I'm confused. So would Verdi be sufficiently cultural but not your band? I don't see how they're not part of culture today. Where do you draw the line?

If you want to talk about Verdi in Music - fine - do it, but it would probably be appreciated in Culture

I really don't think Culture show and Jools holland are mutually exclusive. I'll end up with a split personality.

Just had a thought looking at the comedy thread in culture vultures:

Instead of differentiating between culture and music (by which you mean popular contemporary music) Shouldn't MNHQ just call the board "cultural stuff" cos "culture vultures" does sound a bit poncey (as though comedy shouldn't be in there?) - whereas, it's just about "things that are stimulating for their own sake" (though that wouldn't be a great board name...)

if you can have a chicken section and a pet section. why not a music and a culture section?

I agree a music thread would be good, so yes I'll sign (am another music and chicken person like meghalegs - in fact that kind of sums me up as a person - music and chickens....)

I started the 'pleading for a chicken topic' - and we did get a no, then begged and begged. I think the main thing with the chickens was that they REALLY didn't fit into another topic so although there were lots of chicken threads, they were all over the place - some in Pets, some in ethical living, some in gardening, some in other subjects.

Well MNHQ?

Like why couldn't chickens have been under "pets"
Just gives you a better chance of finding like-minded folk out there.

We are very busy, we can't be schlepping arould all the threads looking for someone that shares our interest in Slipknot.

Chickens can't go under pets because, well, some of them are kept for dinner....

Are there reasons for keeping chickens that do not involve eating? Or eggs? The chicken topic made me laugh a lot, I have to say. Could there be a much more random, upper-middle-class-in-the-extreme, topic?

Quick question - if you got your music topic, would you want it to be for all music? Or just popular? Or excluding classical?

And would 'Culture Vultures' disappear? Because there's a book topic, and if music were taken out as well that only leaves one or two areas for that topic.

well the topic if we got it surely would belong to everyone so imo it would be all music not just pop/metal type stuff.
