We are planning on taking our one year old to a 3 day music festival in the summer and will be staying in our motor home on site.

Does anyone have any experience or tips they can share?

Big ass buggy with decent wheels that won’t get stuck in the mud 😂😂

Ear defenders for the baby

Just relax and don’t worry too much about the schedule otherwise it gets super stressful if your clock watching too much and stressing over getting to a certain stage.. I tend to just take a much more chill approach
Than I would if it’s just us adults

Carry Lots of snacks !!!

Super warm clothes and blankets for night time it gets bloody freezing

Loads of bin bags - useful for everything - can sit on then if grass is wet, useful for leaving dirty shoes on when you get back I’m to where you staying etc…

Take headphones for them, even when not close to the stage its bloody loud and small ears won't like it. I'd take a fair amount of food just as food on site is not likely to be stuff they will eat (and pricey)- then just the usual stuff like plenty of clothes for all potential weathers, stuff to entertain yourselves when he's asleep at night as you'll probably have a long evening in the motor home, highlight if there's anything you really really want to see and do and go with the flow other than that. I took DS to one several years back and it was okay but I wouldn't again- he didn't really get much out of it and we couldn't enjoy it either, but depends where you go I expect!

Battery operated fairy lights around the pushchair/bike trailer if you are taking one. When it gets dark you need people to be able to see it.

Sounds like hell, but from experience of going on any type of holiday with a 1 year old -

  1. accept now that it will be nothing like when you've been to a music festival before

  2. keep to baby's schedule even if that means you miss out on bands or activities you want to do. There's nothing worse than a tired or hungry baby

  3. accept now that baby might not like festivals as much as you do. If they dislike the noise, crowds, mud etc don't try to force it

  4. by the same token if they find anything they really enjoy, the mud, the crowds, the music be prepared to do that activity loads. Nothing better for enjoying yourself than a baby enjoying themselves.
